My Escapes Singapore Return to "Lion City" Brunching in Singapore Again

Brunching in Singapore Again

May 30, 2014
[...]

My second trip has brought me again to hawker centres and I even tried the taste of the durian, in addition to a number of humble snacks...

Well, I got back to Singapore... and I was even hungrier during these days, after having traveled so much...

Despite the high prices on transportation, the sky high prices of apartments, I am telling you: you can eat well in Singapore, even if you are a budget traveler with a thin wallet!

In fact, amongst the well-developed countries, I consider Singapore less expensive.

Spain, Portugal, Italy took a lot more out of my pockets than Singapore. A humble brunch can be terribly expensive in Europe's trendy travel destinations countries.

I'd also mention that small countries like Slovenia have staggering prices. It was a lot easier to find cheap food in Singapore than in Ljubljana, for example.

The humble still water bottle on the left comes from Fiji... Well, it's the most exotic water I ever had, but didn't taste like anything special.

...I'd sure love to visit Fiji, though...

I still had gyozas and pizzas, smoothies, noodle soups, various beers and other meals... and I also tried the durian pancake!

The durian fruit is highly revered in Singapore and Malaysia, but I was terribly disappointed: my pancake tasted like vomit, I threw half of it away.

Yukk!

I doubt I'll eat anything containing durians again...

Here are some of the foods I encountered in Singapore on those days.

My first ever vomit-tasting durian pancake... phew! Yukk!

Durian pancakes

More variations with durian content... forgive me, but I dislike them totally!

Colourful cakes

I was never a fan of cheesecakes... Still a lot better than anything made with durians!

Fruit juices, smoothies

Fruit juices, milkshakes, smoothies 'n' all the rest... great delicacies! And they're 100 % natural!

Mixed salad

Wicked mixed salad with raisin (!) and an odd dressing...

Simple mixed salad

Simple mixed salad. Cheapo. But that dressing was really weird - dark yellow and cheesy

Sushi wall

Sushi wall - how many types of sushi pieces can there be? You wouldn't guess...

Sushi wall from close

Each piece has a different name and design. But they all taste so similar!

Beef pepperoni

Beef pepperoni slice I bought in an MRT station tunnel. Not bad, the taste is not that far from pork's!

Vegetarian pizza

A vegetarian pizza that I heavily spiced up...

Drinking water

I received this drinking water from my hotel on a daily basis
