My Escapes Italy Procida Procida: Quiet and Colourful
Procida: Quiet and Colourful
Besides Capri, the Gulf of Naples has another beautiful island worth visiting: Procida. And I didn't want to miss out on this one.
It's quieter and less than half the size of Capri, but more genuine, because there's less mainstream tourism and luxury there.
Although my trip to the Isle of Capri was far more exciting, the one to the smaller Procida was enjoyable as well... only that this time I could only stay a few hours!
This island is located in the southwestern part of the Gulf of Naples, very near the Island of Ischia.
This time I took the faster, hydrofoil boat instead of the slower (but less expensive ferry). Hydrofoils rise out of the sea and literally ride on top of the waves.
Arrival to Procida by Hydrofoil
"Isola di San Pietro" was my hydrofoil boat for which I bought my ticket at Molo Beverello in Naples. Ride was rough and fast.
My boat looked wrecked, hit on the frontal part, lots of rust and other signs of damage and wear...
I looked around in the port area before heading inland.
Coricella is the most beautiful part of Procida. But we arrived to the main port and I got lost in the wrong direction on the winding streets
Not many regrets, though. The places were beautiful, but I barely had enough time to get back to the port.
Caremar's hydrofoil looked a bit run-down, but the boat sure hauled wildly on top of the waves, bringing me back to Naples...
More photos and words about my experience in this little article...
